Taxi and private hire qualifications available.

Dear Colleague

As we progress through the easing of lockdown restrictions, following government guidelines, I can now confirm SQA’s decision to lift the suspension on the delivery of professional taxi and private hire driver qualifications.

You can now recommence the delivery and assessment of the following qualifications:

Certificate in Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver

To avoid further disruption and to enable your centre to begin delivering these qualifications as soon as you are able, between the dates of 28 August and 11 September, you will only be required to give us 5 working days’ notice of your intention to undertake assessments. After 11 September, this will revert back to 10 working days’ notice.

Before you notify us of your intention to undertake assessments, please ensure your centre is able to undertake them safely and comply with the current government guidelines regarding social distancing for your local area.

We have made some amendments to our own processes to ensure we are also complying with government guidelines. These are as follows:

  • You will no longer receive an unannounced visit, in person, from an SQA representative. Instead, this will be done remotely.
  • When notifying SQA of your intention to undertake assessments, you must  provide a telephone number that you will be available on at all times during the times/dates you have stated you are running the assessments. Please provide suitable contact details, including a contact name, when submitting your notification form to qav@sqa.org.uk.
  • In lieu of an unannounced visit, an SQA representative may call you on the number you have provided and ask you to take part in a video conference call.
  • If you do not answer the telephone call after a maximum of 3 attempts by the SQA representative this may result in a suspension of certification being placed on your centre until the SQA representative has successfully made contact with you and the virtual unannounced visit has taken place.

Thank you for your co-operation during this period of adjustment and in ensuring the safety of all candidates and centre staff during the delivery and assessment of SQA qualifications.
